Young Canadian Soprano AGNES ZSIGOVICS "whose clear, liquid soprano voice makes her arias soar," is looking forward to her solo debut with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra this November where she will perform Bach's St. John Passion under the direction of Maestro Helmuth Rilling. She has performed in the Toronto International Bach Festival under Helmuth Rilling for the past three years, including two Bach Cantatas in the most recent Bach Festival 2006.
During last year's Bach Festival, she sang a duet with world-renowned counter-tenor Daniel Taylor and she continues to sing with Mr. Taylor on a regular basis, including concerts and recordings during the Ottawa Chamber Music Festival and other engagements with the Theatre of Early Music.
After a recent performance of Brahms' German Requiem under the direction of Howard Dyck, Ms. Zsigovics was given the following review: "She sent a thrill down my spine when she hit the first note of her solo squarely and pure."
Other engagements this past year include: Handel's Messiah with the Windsor Symphony Orchestra and Chorus Niagara, Mozart's Coronation Mass and Requiem, J.S. Bach's Cantata BWV 4: Christ Lag in Todes Banden, BWV 71: Gott ist mein Konig, BWV 84: Ich bin vergnugt mit meinem Glucke, Buxtehude's Schlagt Kunstler die Pauken and Poulenc's Gloria.
Her additional solo performance credits include: Schubert's Mass in G Major, Vivaldi's Gloria, The Faure Requiem, J.S. Bach's Cantata BWV: 23, 106, 137, 140, and Vaughan Williams' Dona Nobis Pacem.
Ms. Zsigovics has spent the last two summers in Stuttgart, Germany in the prestigious Festival Ensemble, also under the direction of Maestro Rilling. In 2005 the ensemble performed Bach's Mass in B Minor as well as all of Bach's Motets in Stuttgart, Leipzig, Berlin and Essen. In summer 2006 they toured Salzburg, Luzerne and Mainz with Mozart's Mass in C minor and Requiem.
Ms. Zsigovics is completing her Masters in Voice Performance at the University of Toronto.
Aside from completing her studies at university, Ms. Zsigovics has been teaching an opera course called Opera Italian, for the Continuing Studies Department at University of Toronto since 2003.
